个人简介

Derek Jarman was born on January 31, 1942 in London, England as Michael Derek Elworthy Jarman. He was a director and cinematographer, known for 卡拉瓦乔 (1986), 爱德华二世 (1991) and 维特根斯坦 (1993). He died on February 19, 1994 in London.

早年经历

Directed four music videos for alternative rock band The Smiths. The songs: "The Queen is Dead", "There is a Light that Never Goes Out", "Ask" and "Panic".

Jarman's production team worked with the Britpop band Suede in "The Tour Films", used as a backdrop for their second tour.

Christopher Hobbs, in Derek Jarman: Life as Art (2004) reported that his last words were "I want the world to be filled with white fluffy duckies"

Educated at Canford School in Dorset, England.

He was made a Fellow of the British Film Institute in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film culture.

Started as a painter, trained at the Slade Art School. Commissioned to design sets and costumes for "Don Giovanni" at the London Coliseum, following his first successful exhibition.
