Considered one of the leading figures of Italian innovation in theater, Cecchi alternates the work of stage and film actor to that of a theater director. Memorable is his performance in the drama "End of the match" by Samuel Beckett and, for the cinema, that of Renato Caccioppoli in "Morte di un matematico napoletano". In 2007 he won the Gassman Award as best Italian actor.
Studied acting under the Living Theatre and with the workshop of 爱德华多·德.
Good friends with author Elsa Morante, who urged him to work as a director.
